If the client is planning to combine or add new pages, this is established at the start of the project. In many cases, we may suggest combining pages in certain instances for streamlining the experience. We also will examine which pages bring in the most organic traffic and conversions and plan to bring those pages forward with improved content and natural integration into the website. Wireframing A wireframe is a simple black and white layout of website elements and serves as the general blueprint of the design. This outline is the best way to get everyone on the same page before starting the actual design and makes sure all of the required elements are accounted for and organized. Depending on the project we may or may not create wireframes for subpage templates based on how the home page process goes. Design Mockups Using the approved wireframe, we will then create a design mockup with a look and feel based on the existing logo or brand guide with actual photos and content where possible. We review this design with the client to gather feedback on the look and feel of colors, fonts, spacing, etc. Website Coding & Development Once the home page design is approved our team can move forward with coding and developing the website. While meetings might not be the most fun event on your calendar on a given day (virtual or in person), games and team bonding experiences during a meeting definitely can be! An opportunity to have some fun and take a break from thinking about work is beneficial to everybody. Nearly an infinite number of games have been either born entirely online or brought online in the past decade (a good amount since 2020 due to you know what). The recent integration of their Co-Pilot AI into the platform further indicates their commitment to maintaining and growing this presence. While Microsoft Ads shares many similarities with Google Ads, it offers unique features and labels certain options differently. One notable feature is Audience Ads, which function similarly to the Google Display Network. Managing Audience Ads in Microsoft/Bing Audience Ads are generally harmless but can become irritating if their spending ramps up unexpectedly. Initially, advertisers had the flexibility to adjust the percentage of bid increases or decreases for Audience Ads. However, Microsoft/Bing has gradually limited these options. Now, advertisers can only increase Audience Ads bids, with a minimum increment of 20%. The most effective method to control Audience Ads spending is to contact Microsoft Support directly. Politely requesting a reduction in Audience Ads spend usually results in support either making the changes for you or guiding you through the process. If you do happen to be more of a do-it-yourselfer, the main way they recommend lowering/removing spend on Audience Ads is by excluding the sites that they run on (msn. com outlook. live. com, outlook. com, & bing. com), and then following these step: Select your campaign on the Campaigns tab. While search volume for potential customers is often low, the value of the customers is usually very high. Competition is often low for niche products and services so smaller businesses and less established websites can still have success. This article reviews best practices for manufacturers, wholesalers, businesses with B2B products and services, or companies with niche products and services. Keyword Research You know your audience is small, so when you see a higher volume estimate, it often is not a good sign. It can mean that the keyword has mixed intent with some other consumer product. Don’t be afraid to go after keywords with very low volume. "Gap measuring tool" looks like an appealing target on this list. But in this case, there is a separate audience of basic construction gap measurement tools that are far less expensive than our client’s industrial gap measurement device. Choosing longer tail searches that better match the technical language of our target customer like “gap and flush” is the better choice. This screenshot from Google Search Console shows the clicks and impressions for these two keywords over the past 28 days. Prioritizing these keywords with just 10 or 20 estimated searches a month might not feel like much traffic, but keyword estimates are often inaccurate, and much lower than actual search volume. In this post, we break down some SEO tips for businesses and franchises with multiple locations. When you increase your visibility for each of your locations, you’ll drive more traffic to your website (and hopefully) increase your overall conversions. Whether you have 2 locations or 100, you’ll need a clear plan to keep each location visible. Benefits of Local Landing Pages for Organic SEO Local landing pages, especially for businesses that have multiple office locations, are beneficial to capturing more organic traffic from users searching for services within a given area. For example, a user looking for a dentist in Philadelphia could use Google to search for “dentist in Philadelphia”. If your dental practice happens to have a location in Philadelphia as well as other towns, having a location page for each can boost your SEO efforts. Rolling with the Philadelphia dentist example, let's say you had a secondary location in Conshohocken. The distance between these two cities is about 45 minutes. Creating a dedicated landing page for both locations gives you the opportunity to rank higher for both town and city names. How can you leverage GA4 and Looker Studio to make custom reports that are easier to digest? - Published: 2023-04-08 - Modified: 2023-04-11 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/the-end-of-universal-analytics-how-to-create-reporting-with-ga4-data/ Transitioning from UA to GA4 It's no secret that Google Analytics (UA) is the most widely used analytics tool for tracking website performance. But come July 1, 2023, UA will be discontinued and website owners will be forced to use Google Analytics 4 (GA4). This is no shocker to those of us who have received many email updates and seen many warnings about the inevitable switch, but time is ticking! With GA4, businesses have access to more comprehensive data than ever before. The new version offers features such as Enhanced Measurement, which allows users to track customer behavior across multiple devices and sessions. Why The Switch? Experts in the digital marketing field are divided over Google's announcement to discontinue Google Analytics in 2023. The sudden switch has left many people scratching their heads, wondering why Google is making this move. GA4 represents Google's shift toward a "privacy-first" approach to cross-channel data tracking. With GA4, businesses can track user interactions across all devices, gain better control over data collection and privacy settings, and view a deeper analysis of customer behavior. Change Can Be Scary Although this all sounds promising on paper, many have yet to fully utilize GA4. According to a recent poll conducted by Carrie Hill, only 26% of users are taking advantage of the data collected in GA4 (as of Jan 2023). At Boom Visibility, many of our marketing clients receive monthly reports that contain Universal Analytics and a health check focusing on technical issues. Google Analytics can give you an overview of this information in the form of a standard source/medium report, but what if you could get even more specific and know right away in your inbox where an individual lead came from? This invaluable information is possible to obtain with a plugin called Attributer. The plugin can detect which channels all unique visitors came to your website through and then pushes that data into many different places—including your inbox contact forms, CRM, and other sales and marketing tools. This allows you to immediately assign a source to every customer you interact with by name instead of vague data points on a report. Because who has the time to painstakingly sift through Analytics to find where that really great lead came from weeks ago? We know most of our clients don't! Attributer gives you the ability to see in your inbox exactly which leads and customers are coming from organic search, paid search, paid social, referrals, direct visits, and more. This can help you compare high-quality and low-quality leads in real-time. You can also get more detailed and include other important attribution points like: The name of the search engine or referral site that brought in an organic lead The ad campaign, ad group, or specific ad name that was clicked on The landing... --- > In order to make good decisions about how to acquire the right leads, it is important to understand how to value your leads. - Published: 2022-04-10 - Modified: 2022-04-22 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/how-to-better-track-the-value-of-your-leads/ Are You Tired of Paying for Bad Leads? It's the bread and butter of your business - a solid, high-quality lead. In fact, nothing can signal an issue with your website or marketing better than if you are consistently receiving poor-quality leads. Everyone hates to see your conversion counts filled with spam or leads you just can't service. Many of our customers focus on niches that don't work with residential customers, or get requests from users who are not qualified. Almost all of our clients have types of leads that are far more valuable than others. So why do we continue to track each lead as a value of 1 in our reports? Increased Importance with Google Auto Bidding Google Ads has been aggressively pushing automatic bid strategies that work on a cost per lead (target CPA). As we move more Google Ads accounts into this new method, having an accurate value and count of your leads is more important than ever. Unless you have spent a lot of time setting up conversion events, analyzing Google data, or having detailed meetings with your marketing team - knowing how to value a lead can seem difficult. The good news is that setting a value for your leads is actually pretty simple - it's increasing the quality of your leads that may be difficult. For most people, this rises slightly above the level of a minor annoyance. But if you own a business and have a website, this recent trend raises a lot of questions, not the least of which: Is this necessary? For a lot of people, it is. With security breaches in the news and high-profile cases about the abuses of personal data, legislation has been created to protect the individual on the internet. These include the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California, which can affect any company or website, regardless of location. What is The GDPR? The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a law drafted and passed by the European Union (EU) to ensure European internet users' data privacy and security. It also subjects organizations with websites within the EU to strict rules governing the personal data collected from users and mandates the transparent disclosure of data collection methods, the purpose for collection, and the encryption of the data collected. The main point of contact for the average user with GDPR compliance is the popup box to deny or accept cookies that is frequently seen at the bottom of most larger websites, Consent from a user—referred to within the law as a “data subject” — is the most important matter when it comes to compliance. Learn why offering backlinks to donors helps everyone! - Published: 2021-05-10 - Modified: 2021-05-19 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/why-nonprofits-should-offer-donation-backlinks/ Donation link building is a great way for businesses to increase their SEO rankings while still keeping in line with Google’s Webmaster Guidelines for linking. Not only does this partnership benefit donors, but also nonprofits too. What are Donation Backlinks? Donation backlinks are links from a nonprofit or charity website that point to donor websites. For example, a local business can donate a certain amount of money to be featured on a nonprofit’s website. This should include a link to the donor website. Nonprofits can start with just a few hundred dollars then increase the price as it becomes easier to find donors. As donors, there is value in being seen as socially responsible, though it's hard to justify much more than $500 purely on SEO value. Remember, Google usually gives more authority to nonprofit websites because they are a force for good! Why Nonprofits Should Offer Backlinks to Donors Locally Relevant Offering backlinks to local donors not only benefits your organization but also strengthens community bonds. Partnering with a donor in the area builds trust and relationships within the community at large while bringing awareness to both entities. Niche Search engines give more credence to interlinking websites that are in the same niche or industry-adjacent. Attracting the right donor that aligns with your field or values and offering a backlink is a simple way to emphasize the cause and its mission. If you are in an established vertical, like restaurants or spas, you are not going to outrank competition that has a huge head start and more resources to work with. There are also sites like franchisedirect. com and franchiseopportunities. com that fill the search results with a wide range of franchising opportunities. Imagine trying to get your business noticed in this photo of Time Square. It's better to wait until you can afford to cover a big space because you could easily waste your money on something small. Over the past 5 years, our company has worked with various franchisors on their websites. The industry standard seems to be that you should make a separate website for franchise opportunities, but in many cases, we see websites that have shallow content and poor design. There also can be advantages for search engine optimization if the franchising information is built within the main website. Our feeling is that for most franchise systems it is better to include your franchise content within your website until you have the resources to build a separate franchise website the right way. However, it seems that more and more mobile results are displaying these images now. The biggest question we have is, “Can we control what image Google shows? ” Why Are Google's Mobile Image Thumbnails Important? It’s reasonable to assume that search results with a quality image thumbnail will be clicked on first. Images are eye-catching and more pleasing to users compared to just text. If Google displays a low-quality or irrelevant image on your search result, you could see a decrease in click-through-rate (CTR). For example, one of our clients came to us and asked if we could change the image next to his diesel delivery mobile search result. The image wasn’t exactly depicting what fits the page best. Plus, it wasn’t even the main or first image on the page. So we checked with Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool and found that the PrimaryImageOfPage attribute held our chosen featured image. For some reason, Google wasn’t showing this image, which was the image we set as the main image of the page. We had to figure out a way to switch out that image! You may have even noticed notifications in your email or ad account dashboard telling you that you have been granted a credit. These credits are meant to show support and solidarity from Google to their customers, many of whom are facing closures and drops in revenue due to this “new normal” that the pandemic created. But what if you don’t see any notifications or aren’t sure why you got the amount you did? We found ourselves asking these same questions on behalf of many of our clients. While many of the accounts we manage received credits, we found some inconsistencies that didn’t make sense and some qualifying accounts that for some reason didn’t get anything at all. We dug a little deeper and analyzed our own collection of ad accounts to try to find some patterns and answers to the who’s, what’s and why’s of Google’s COVID-19 ad credits. Understanding how to interact with different models within Google Analytics is an important part of marketing consulting. Each attribution model will bear different results, so it's important to understand which is right for your business and what they can tell you about your ads! Let’s take a look at how attribution models work and two commonly used models known as first and last click. How Do Attribution Models Work? Recently, some of the Boom team attended the 2019 Philadelphia Digital Marketing Summit and Lindsy O’Connor from Adtaxi provided a creative example that explains how attribution models work: A night out with friends can be full of different interactions! Maybe you start the night off with a spicy mojito and then mosey to a friend’s barbecue for a glass of wine. Eventually, the party moves to a bar for a malty beer and then you wind down with a scotch and of course, a cheesesteak. Although you had a lot of fun, the next day is rough. In order to vow you never feel this way again, you may ask yourself: “Which one of these events caused my hangover? ” Similar to retracing your steps after a night out, attribution models measure interactions, or clicks, in order to understand the behavior of a consumer and evaluate which ad resulted in a... --- - Published: 2019-10-01 - Modified: 2019-11-26 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/4-takeaways-from-the-2019-philadelphia-digital-summit/ The Boom Visibility digital marketing gals had a great time at Digital Summit back in July! My first business was called “CSS Online. ” This was the start of what would become Boom Visibility today. I had been building websites alongside my full time job for a few months, but I had no idea how to run a business and my history degree wasn’t very relevant experience. Not happy with my current job and having the desire to own my own business, I built myself a website, and walked up and down Eagle Road in Havertown with business cards in hand. I hope you will enjoy these screenshots of some of our first projects in 2009. Pretty terrible, right? These projects did not cost more than a few hundred dollars, and we were providing value to our clients. As time went on I gained more experience and was able to hire my first part-time employee in 2011. Today, we have 5 full-time employees and hopefully a 6th later this year. But as a business owner, it's important to understand how Google plans to implement changes over the next few months. Keep in mind, some of these changes may impact small business owners. April 2nd is the Official Date If you have a Google account, you have received an email notice like this. The email explains Google's decision to shut down Google+ and a date to keep in mind: "On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April. Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted. The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages, and Album Archive will take a few months, and content may remain through this time. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via activity log and some Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ is deleted. Bargain hosting is usually bargain hosting for a reason. Security issues, slow performance, poor technical support, and a lack of features are all common complaints of bargain hosting. If you pay for Google AdWords or other digital marketing ads, then just a few visitors leaving the site because it loads too slowly means your hosting is actually costing you money! If your website is hacked, it can easily cost more to fix it than it would have cost for a better hosting platform from the start. Of course, as in anything, there’s no reason to reach for the most expensive option just because it is the most expensive. There is hosting out there that will give you all the best options without breaking the bank. Security Because of increased security concerns, most people are moving to secure websites. Secure sites have an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), which provides encryption for sensitive materials. This is what adds the “https” at the front of a web address, and the lack of an SSL may trigger a “not secure” warning in your browser. Purchasing an SSL on top of hosting costs can be quite expensive, but now, thanks to the Let’s Encrypt project, an SSL can be obtained for free. However, keep in mind that Google isn't the only site that matters. A 2016 survey by BrightLocal found that 20% of customers browse one review site before making a decision about a product or service, and 59% look at 2-3 sites. Obtaining reviews is a good thing (click here for tips on how to get more), but it isn't enough to just have a high score on Google--you need to have your write-ups spread across all reviews sites. Don't Get Google Tunnel Vision Since Google is such a massive influence on web, it's easy to forget that there are other reviewing platforms. Focusing all your attention on Google reviews and none on other third party sites isn't a good practice. While Google reviews have the most significant impact on your rankings, Yelp, Angie's List, and Facebook are also important pieces of the puzzle. Google values reviews on other site because if a business has 100 reviews on Google and just a few on Yelp, it can make the reviews appear inauthentic. There are no easy solutions to keeping your website secure, but there are plenty of things you can do to minimize common problems. 1. Stay involved If you receive a lot of emails about your domain name and your hosting account, it can be very tempting to delete those emails without reading them. The fact is, a lot of them are not important, but if your domain or your hosting account is up for renewal, and the card your provider has on file is out of date, your website could be suspended. Always check through these emails. If you are unsure if you should be concerned or not by something you read in an email, don’t click on any links. Check with your web development company first, and they should be able to tell you if the email is legitimate. 2. Secure your passwords The easier the password, the more likely you are to remember it, but also the more likely you can be hacked. And yes, the hackers are probably aware that your password is the name of your company with a ‘123’ added to the end of it. Make sure your passwords are strong and random. Also, make sure you have them written down in some central location, or if you have a lot of passwords, a solution like LastPass is a good option. The fact is that there are over 1. 79 billion registered active Facebook users, and that number is growing every day. Some of these people could be your next customer. But then there are the reservations—Facebook ads can be difficult to manage and the ROI can come in the form of additional referrals, more work from existing customers, or a long delay between liking your page and becoming a lead. From a business perspective, ecommerce was a very difficult proposition, involving complex, and very expensive, payment gateways in order to have secure transactions on a website. The expense of setting up payments simply wasn’t worth it to non-profits or small, newly-formed businesses. PayPal was the first to provide an inexpensive alternative payment gateway, and since then, several other companies have created their own systems. We recently discovered a great new way to receive payments through our form program and Stripe. For one of our clients, we created a page with a simple form which connects to Stripe’s payment gateway. It’s a very easy way to provide your customers or donors with a means to send money to you. Clear Advantages of Payment Forms The benefits of a payment form on your website include: The forms are not limited to Stripe’s gateway, but can also run through Paypal or any number of other processors. They accept an open ended amount entered by the user, which is beneficial to make donations to non-profits, or they can have predefined product/service pricing. The forms can be used privately by password protecting a page, or just by not linking it from anywhere on the website. They can accept recurring payments or subscriptions. All credit card data is stored outside of the website by a third party, so it’s secure. Time and time again we hear our clients say that they have asked for reviews from satisfied customers, but then it ends there. Why are reviews so important? In order to ensure your business is actively getting new reviews, you need to have a process in place for encouraging reviews, and you need to take the time to follow up with your customers. Don't Be Subtle! There's a number of techniques to ask for reviews, but many of these methods aren't very effective. Don't expect your customer to get the hint if you are subtly asking for a review. Some methods that aren't very effective include: Adding reviews links to your email signature. Including a note about leaving reviews with an invoice. Sending out a newsletter blast to ask for reviews. The best way to actually get a review is to ask a person when you are face-to-face or on the phone. All of your employees who work directly with customers should know how to respond when a customer gives them positive feedback. When your business gets a new positive review, it benefits everyone who works for the business. Develop a Process The best way to ask for reviews depends on your specific business. When we are helping clients to implement a new reviews program, we generally start with a 4-step process that can apply to most businesses that deal directly with customers. Take a look at this results page from early February... Now let's look at a search for the same thing in March: So much white space! ! But what happened to those ads in the side? Google updated the results page in mid-February and has decided to do away with those ads in the right hand side. Now, in many cases, you will see four ads at the top of the page (instead of the old three) and ads at the bottom of the results page. You still may see three ads along the top, as Google has said four will show for "highly commercial queries. " This means that the searcher appears to have the intention "to buy. " Google’s Product Listing Ads (PLAs) and ads within the Knowledge Graph will still display on the right sidebar for appropriate queries. Why Did Google Do This? We may be quick to say that Google did this just to add confusion to our lives. According to Google though, this change makes mobile and desktop results look much more similar. If you have noticed your Google My Business page looking a bit different lately, you aren't losing your mind. Towards the end of 2015, Google rolled out an updated view of profiles and announced that local pages would no longer be supporting reviews, categories, directions, stars, photo uploads, interior photos, maps, hours, etc. Over time, more and more people are seeing this updated version of the profile, which looks something like this: About the Business Main Google Page The biggest problem with this new layout? Landing pages are pages separate from your homepage that are generally dedicated to a single product or service. If you offer 5 services, each service should have its own page. When you run advertisements online it is generally more effective to target the 5 services with 5 separate ads than one ad that mentions all 5 services. When someone clicks on an ad they "land" on your "landing page" for a particular product or service. Because these pages are your first impression on a potential customer, they are very important. Landing pages come in all shapes and sizes. Many ecommerce landing pages follow a common format with product photos on the left, product specs on the right, and a colorful eye catching "add to cart" button. The only element that all landing pages have in common is the call-to-action. You offer everything they are looking for. Yet, once they arrive on your landing page, they become overwhelmed by information and decide to give up. This problem is all too common. In fact, a study by Chartbeat in 2014 found that 55% of website clicks result in a time on site less than 15 seconds. That's barely enough time to let the page load and take a quick scan of the information. In the past, search engines would reward longer pages that used the target keyword multiple times, with better rankings. Today, the use of the target keyword on the page is less important and there is little to no advantage to a longer page over a shorter one. The longer pages leave potential customers scrolling through boring, and sometimes unnatural, text. What Can You Do Better? Before we delve into our tips for how some changes to your website text and formatting can help improve your page engagement, there's one key thing to keep in mind. " In order to reach self-actualization, you must first satisfy each need, making your way from the bottom of the pyramid to the top. These needs include physiological, safety, love/belonging, and esteem. Once you fulfill all of your basic needs, you have the desire and ability to pursue the higher-level ones. With more and more people turning to social media and reviews sites to evaluate a business, the internet has become the new place for word of mouth recommendations. Take, for example, my mom, who recently posted to Facebook asking for recommendations for a cleaning service. Within hours, she had dozens of recommendations. She even had friends and family calling her with suggestions. From there, my mom made a decision to hire a business based off of these suggestions without any further research. As a business owner, you don't have the time to recommend yourself to every single person in your service area. ' This is the best way to handle today's wide variety of displays. An iPhone 3GS has a screen resolution that is 320 pixels wide, while many desktop monitors are 2000 pixels wide. Imagine trying to design something to display information on a business card that also has to display the same information on 8. 5 x 11 piece of paper? This variety of displays has made responsive design the new normal in web design. A responsive design uses rules called media queries to change the design in different screen sizes. For example: If the resolution is less than 600 pixels, show these items stacked on top of each other. If the resolution is greater than 600 pixels, show these items next to each other. By writing a long series of these types of queries, the entire website is coded to be scaled appropriately on all devices. Take a look at an example of a site we did for Perakis Currency. This gives you an idea of how the look of the site changes based on the size of the screen. Non-responsive websites can still be mobile-friendly. Many of our client websites have been fitted with a mobile-friendly website even though they are not truly responsive designs. This is a much easier way to make a website mobile-friendly without completely redesigning and rebuilding it. OK, so maybe ghosts aren't actually following you around, but still, you start to see the product all over your internet browser. Take, for example, when I started looking for an HP computer monitor recently on Amazon. After looking at one of the models, I immediately started seeing it everywhere. I logged onto Facebook, and BAM, there it was. Next thing I know, I'm reading an article on CNN, and there's that monitor stalking me again. A few days later, I finally give in and make the purchase. This clearly isn't just a coincidence that I'm seeing this ad. This advertising method is called remarketing, and it is designed to show you ads related to a site you recently visited. So, when a visitor goes to a website, they are given a tracking cookie, which triggers that website's ads to show for that same visitor in other places on the internet. By giving the visitor a reminder of what they were looking at, you increase your chances of converting that visitor into a customer, or at least getting them to like your Facebook page or return to your website. Setting up remarketing ads might seem like a time consuming and expensive process, but it's actually a fairly inexpensive advertising option that can give your website extra exposure. Yet, many small businesses still don't recognize the importance of review management. While word of mouth is still great for referrals, it's no surprise that more and more people are relying on online reviews to make snap judgments about a business. Many consumers will look at reviews to support a word of mouth recommendation. When a potential customer Googles a service they need, they will often first see a list of local businesses, which includes a star-rating based off of reviews. For example, take a look at this search for "auto body repair Havertown PA" The listings that have a star rating draw in the eye a bit more and give a business more credibility in the eyes of a Google searcher. In June, Google launched "Google My Business," a suite of tools designed to help business owners get their presence on Google. Never fear—this isn't Google's effort to completely delete the hard work you have completed. Instead, this is a new dashboard designed to make the legwork a little easier on you. Or at least that's what all the Google announcements say. In fact, here's what the official FAQs say: If you previously used Google Places for Business or Google+ Pages Dashboard to manage your business information, your account has been automatically upgraded to Google My Business. Google My Business makes it easier than ever to update business information across Google Search, Maps and Google+. Now your Google Maps, Google Plus, and Google Search listings can be controlled from one dashboard. Let's say you add a new picture. It updates on each of these listing areas. You want the site to be affordable, but you also need something dynamic to impress clients. You can ‘DIY’ it for a small monthly fee on Squarespace or Wix, but if you really want it to look professional, and be able to attract new customers, you should seek the help of a web design company. For a basic ‘brochure website’ without any commerce you could call around and get quotes anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000. There is a tremendous amount of variance between different web design companies and what they charge. The following will help you understand why the prices are so different: How big is the design company? It helps to know how many people will work on your website. There are a lot of freelancers that do all of their own design, development and project management. This keeps costs low, but usually this type of business is good at design and poor at development, or vice versa. In larger companies you might talk to a project manager who relays information to a designer. Then an approved design is sent to a developer. This allows everyone to do what they do best but also increases cost. How many unique page designs are needed? It's not uncommon for websites, especially blogs, to only use one template for the whole website. There is a header, a footer, a background color, and a sidebar that remains consistent for every page.... --- - Published: 2014-07-01 - Modified: 2014-07-01 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/starting-newsletter-can-be-difficult/ Why newsletters are important When you share a post on Facebook, only a small percentage of those who like your page will actually see the post in their news feed. This fact is becoming increasingly true on other channels like LinkedIn and Twitter. Though more traditional, email newsletters are still the best way to ensure your message is received by your customers. Why building a big list is difficult By law, you need permission to send the newsletter to clients. Most larger companies have fine print when you purchase something, usually stating that by purchasing you are agreeing to receive the newsletter. Many smaller companies often break the law by sending emails to their customer list even if those customers never agreed. For example Apple requires customers to agree to the 'Terms of Service' when making purchases, which includes a privacy policy. These terms state that they can collect personal information, including email addresses, to send out promotions. Because they give the consumer the choice to opt-out of these emails, they are in accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act. So if you play by the rules you will start to slowly collect emails, but you'll also want to be sending newsletters to your expanding list. Current subscribers often forward their newsletter to others which helps the list of recipients grow longer. The problem is that it takes at least a few hours to compose a quality newsletter. Here is a list of our current pet peeves. Pages load really slowly - Occasionally it speeds up but usually pages load in 5 seconds or longer. Poor reporting - For small click volumes there is often no reporting at all. For higher click volumes there is a limited amount of information available. For example, you can see which management level clicks on your ads, but you can not measure the click-through-rate by management level to determine where your ads are converting the best. More poor reporting - If your ads stop displaying there is no indication of why. It's up to you to figure out why LinkedIn stopped displaying your ads. Login cooking expiration - Every 15 minutes or so you are asked to login again. Campaign setup issues - You can't duplicate a display campaign to a sponsored update campaign so you must recreate your ad targeting for each type of campaign. This issue is compounded by the fact you can't upload or copy and paste a list of locations or job titles when creating a new campaign. Don't press enter after you enter in a job title or else you will be sent to the next screen. See video for explanation. Bugs - See video for examples. If you are just getting started with LinkedIn, you may have noticed that your company has its own personal page. It's possible that you didn't create the page, but you obviously want to have control over it. Becoming a company page admin puts you in charge of maintaining the business info and sharing relevant company links. But of course, it's just not that easy. If you have just created your personal profile, you aren't going to be able to take over ownership of a page in a snap. This is especially true if the company page is already existing. In order to become a company page admin, you must fit the following LinkedIn criteria. You're a current company employee and your position is on your profile. A company email address (e. g. charlie@companyname. com) is one of the confirmed email addresses on your LinkedIn account. You associate your profile with the right company. If you haven't created a business page, there is a good chance Facebook has already created one from existing business information or a customer checking in at your location. It is also possible that there are multiple pages for your business. If you haven't already "liked" the page it can be very hard to find because Facebook search is notoriously bad. Even with the new Facebook Graph Search, simple searches sometimes do not turn up the desired results, especially if your business name is similar to others. There is another way to find your business's presence on Facebook and we will walk you through it and some other tips for managing Facebook for your business. Find your Business Facebook Page Results for our Facebook search Instead of searching using Facebook's built-in search feature, we will be using a very handy feature of Google Search, the special search operator "site:". With this special search you can Google only one domain, in this case facebook. com. In our example we are looking for "Seven Stones Gallery" here in Media, PA. We started with the Google Search: site:facebook. com "Seven Stones Gallery" This search returns many posts on Facebook that mentioned the business name but not any pages for the business. To target the pages for the business we refined the search to look for the business's website domain. site:facebook. com sevenstonesgallery. com As you... --- - Published: 2013-06-27 - Modified: 2013-06-27 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/best-stock-photo-sites/ When it comes to stock photos, there's a wealth of images floating around, but it's never easy to choose the right subscription service. While some sites offer a "pay-as-you-go" plan, others require users to purchase a subscription that can be costly. Some sites even host a ton of free images. So, what's the best site out there? We break it down to give you a little bit of everything, from the free to the extravagant. 1. Fotolia--consistently reliable Fotolia offers over 22 million royalty free stock photos. The site offers a pay-as-you-go credit plan, as well as a monthly subscription. Credit plans range from 27 credits ($35) to 9,400 credits ($7,000)—a range of $0. 74 to $1. 30 per credit. Some photos may be as little as 1 credit, but other images take more than a few credits depending on image size. The monthly plans are pretty flexible--$25 will get you 5 images for a month, while $8,160 will get you 1,000 images a month for an entire year. Pros: The pricing is reasonable compared to many other sites, and the different payment options give users a lot of freedom. Cons: Many of the images are taken in Europe so they may look out of place in an American website. Searching the site can be slow, and in the past people have complained that their accounts were terminated, and their credits disappeared. 2. Stock. Xchng--free, quick, and easy Stock. How else are we supposed to keep track of the dozens of sites we use on a daily basis? Unfortunately, as we are forced to manage these number, letter, and symbol combinations in our brains, hackers are becoming more efficient than ever. As computers advance, hackers can work quickly and in groups to easily access private information. In fact, a recent Ars Technica article details hacking advances and reports that a PC running a single AMD Radeon HD7970 GPU (nerd talk for a fancy video graphics card) can try, on average, 8. 2 billion password combinations per second. So while we think we’re smart for creating intricate passwords, it seems impossible to outsmart the computer. According to the 2012 Norton Cybercrime Report, 40% of internet users do not use complex passwords or regularly change their passwords, and nearly half of users have been asked to change a password because their account has been compromised. What’s the Worst that Can Happen? Nobody wants to believe they are a target for being hacked, but we’re all vulnerable. Consider this-- when you create a username for a site, you’ll often use your email address as a login. Next thing you know, you have a generic username on your most used sites, and your passwords may be extremely similar. Many people feel that creating a mobile site is a waste of time, for three main reasons: Need to create different designs for each site Need to update content on 2 different websites Additional cost for development of the mobile site I think responsive is a great solution for a new website, but I don't think it is essential at this point. iPads and tablets count as mobile devices, but most desktop sites are not difficult to use on these larger screens. There are some great responsive templates, but as a whole, responsive designs are simpler and less detailed than desktop designs. Also their layouts are often limited to certain styles. Responsive CSS is new to most developers so you will pay a premium for a custom responsive design. The biggest reason why I feel that a responsive design is often unnecessary is because of the availability of mobile website tools that solve the biggest issues with a separate mobile site. DudaMobile will 'mobilize' any website. If you don't believe me put a URL into their website and you will have a mobile website in minutes. Works with any CMS. We are in the middle of a Facebook advertising campaign that has brought us a bunch of great fans at a reasonable price. Because Social Media is perceived as "free" advertising, many companies are hesitant to spend any money on advertising. Many companies choose to grow their fan base by giving away an iPad. Unless you are an electronics store this will likely attract of lot of fans that are not potential customers. Usually it is better to put that money into advertising that can be more geared towards your target market. As a B2B company with a limited ability to target small business owners on Facebook we still decided to advertise and here is why. Perceived popularity - As a company that offers social media consulting it was particularly important that we increase our page likes, but for any type of business people take notice of your number of likes. More likes makes the company look more reputable and popular. In order to grow your Facebook likes we have also found that people are more inclined to click "like" if they are #230 than if they are #23. Think of the difference between a person searching for a product, service, or information, versus a person who is just killing time at work on Facebook. In this tutorial we will walk you through the basics of signing up for Facebook ads as well as the basic strategy we employ when choosing images and ad copy. Step 1: Where the ad takes you Login to Facebook and click the small down arrow in the top right of your screen and select "Create an Ad". You will be asked for the destination of your ad and you will see a list of pages. Although you may enter the URL of your website, we recommend using your Facebook page. Ads directed to an external URL will cost more than an ad for a Facebook page. "Liking" an external page will show in the persons News feed, however, liking your business page will keep them exposed to new posts from your business page. Step 2: Creating Your ad Title: When you are advertising a Facebook page you cannot change the title of the ad. It will always be the name of your page. Copy: Writing copy for your page is easier than you think. Our goal is to get the person's attention and ask them to like something that everyone likes. Also, some web designers still do not install a content management system and make their customers pay to update their website. This is a short-sighted approach. If the customer has trouble updating their own website, they will be less inclined to do so. They are even less likely to update their website if they have to call their web company and pay them for support. When we need to bill less than an hour to help out with website support everyone loses. The customer feels nickel and dimed, and we don't want to stop what we are doing for 15 minutes worth of support. If the website development customer is trained properly they are more likely to update their website, and refer your services to others. When the website is updated more frequently it usually becomes more popular, and the company is more successful. Instead of calling you for help updating the website, the company will be calling you to add new functionality, build another website, or start on another project. This type of work is far more profitable for both parties. The client had been using a small monthly budget on Bing since the beginning of 2011. What had happened was that during the year Bing had completed their search integration with Yahoo. This increase in search queries and the advertising competition that came along with it had made their monthly budget too small. What before would easily cover a month was now being blown through in a single day. The solution was quite simple, adjust the Bing advertising budget from monthly to daily. Luckily one of the other changes Microsoft brought to Bing last year was a simplified budgeting system. This was also another factor in why the monthly budget was no longer lasting the whole month. When the changes were rolled out in mid 2011 the daily budget became the new default and monthly budgets could no longer be divided evenly across the month. To set a daily budget in the Microsoft adCenter you must navigate to your ad campaign. Once on the campaign you will see a link titled “Edit your campaign settings” on the line below the campaign’s title. The average restaurant has far more reviews than the average contractor or repair shop. The only reason someone would be compelled to write a review for a service business is after a negative experience. For that reason service businesses often resort to asking customers for reviews after positive experiences to balance out the bad. Unfortunately Yelp prohibits businesses from asking for reviews and can filter them if they think you might be doing so. It doesn't take much to figure out which reviews have been fabricated. I can usually read through a list and figure out which reviews are written by friends and employees because they are overwhelmingly positive, and often not very specific. I think someone would rather read 10 questionable reviews, than give the user no information at all. Filtering the most questionable reviews in a list of 50 makes a lot more sense than filtering 5 of 5. For these reasons I think the Google places, online yellow pages, and the other local business directories are a better choice for service businesses than Yelp. Why the reviews filter is unfair Distinguishing real reviews from fake ones is a nearly impossible undertaking. There are basic restrictions, for example not being able to sign up for multiple accounts from the same IP address. We had the idea to link his local review sites from his home page and it worked well. He has 11 great reviews on Yelp, 13 on Google Places, and a bunch on the other search sites. Although many of his reviews are from friends and family, these are all legitimate customers. I was very shocked to see that all of his Yelp reviews became filtered the other day. Most reviews are filtered because the user account is not active enough. If you sign up for an account and post a review, and never return to post reviews on other businesses then you review will likely be filtered. We don't think that is the issue here, as many of the users who have filtered reviews on Tommy's page, have non-filtered reviews on other pages. This seemingly happened over night, which had us looking through Yelp's terms and conditions for a reason why. 1. You were caught asking for reviews which was against Yelp's policy. Read this snippet from the Yelp faq page. Should I ask customers to write reviews for my business? Probably not. It's a slippery slope between the customer who is so delighted by her experience that she takes it upon herself to write a glowing review and the customer who is "encouraged" to write a favorable review in exchange for a special discount. The best tool we have found requires that you use the browser Firefox. You can download this browser for free if you do not have it already. Once you have Firefox open download the Rank Checker Plugin from SEOBook. com. After installing the plugin we recommend that you change the setting by going to your "tools" menu in FireFox and go to RankChecker->Options and set the delay between queries to 10 seconds. If Google sees a whole bunch of searches coming from one computer in rapid succession they will recognize it as automated block your computer. Open Rank checker by clicking on the icon in the bottom right of your Firefox window and select "Add Multiple Keywords". Type your domain name in the domain box, and paste in your keyword list from your keyword research sheet. It will take some time to run the report but once completed you can export the results to a CSV you can open in Excel. With a little work in excel you can create a keyword rankings report like the one below. What do you do with this data? You need links pointing to this page that reinforce the keywords you are targeting. This starts with links within your site. After creating a landing page, look for other pages on your website that are related. For example if you have a page that lists all of the nearby towns that you serve, put links to your town specific landing pages. For informational landing pages you may mention the topic of your landing page on other pages of your site. Add links on those pages to your landing page. Social Media is another place to link your landing pages. Its a good habit to post on Twitter and Facebook each time you add a new landing page to your website and you can use your target keywords in these posts. The rest of the web is the best place to give your landing pages credibility. If your landing page provides useful information, you may be able to find blogs or forums that are talking about the keywords in your landing page. LinkedIn and Twitter conversations also will work. You can contribute to this conversation and add a link to your landing page. The other option is to link your landing page in online directories and article sites. Providing quality information is the best way to get links, and you won't have to lift a finger. Advertisers specify which keywords they want to appear for, what geographical area they are to appear in, and how much they are willing to spend each time someone clicks on the advertisement. There is only a $5 charge to start an account, there is no minimum budget, and you are not charged when the ad appears, only when it is clicked. To sign up for an ad-words account go to http://adwords. google. com/ When selecting keywords the default setting for keywords is "Broad match". This is usually your best option for local PPC advertising. The other two options are "phrase match" and "exact match. So if someone Googled "looking for marketing for my online business" this would qualify even though the exact term "Online Marketing" is split up. Phrase Match - Under phrase match the keywords "Online Marketing" must appear together in that order. So if someone Googled "looking for marketing for my online business" the ad would not qualify. Enter your business zip code and selected a mile radius where you want your ads to appear. Networks and Devices - change the radio button for networks from "All available sites" to "let me choose", then un-check the box for the "display network". The display network means your ad will appear on websites where your keywords appear. By un-checking this option you will only be advertising on Google Searches. If you want to advertise on the display network, set up a new campaign and only select the display network. That way you can compare and contrast the performance of the display network vs. Google Search. Bidding and Budget - If your goal is to spend $100 per month then specify a daily budget of $5. You will not spend your full budget each day so it can be hard to predict how much your monthly spending will be. After setting your budget check back in a month, then again in 3 months to increase or decrease your daily budget. --- > Learn how to Writing PPC Ads and the basics of internet marketing advertising with Google Ad-Words. - Published: 2011-03-23 - Modified: 2011-03-23 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/writing-ppc-ads/ It is very tough to write an ad that will distinguish you from the competition. No calls or contact forms completed from the group. This is a step up from the zero visitors I receive regularly from my free profile, but nothing spectacular. Id would be interested to see if anyone had more success with a larger town. Update 9-20-2010: I was named the "Mayor of Havertown" almost immediately after I got the neccesary connections. The first blast email with Web SBZ listed as the mayor went out today at 2:30. We will see if I get any traffic from it. Original Post 9-13-2010: I get a newsletter from Merchant Circle every week that announces "Who the Mayor of Havertown" is. This is the person who has the most "connections" in your home town. The leader in Havertown only has 4 connections so just for fun I decided to go get myself a few more connections. Its kinda cheating for me because I have access to a bunch of Merchant Circle accounts for local businesses but if I can get to the top of list emailed to local business owners in Havertown it could bring in some new business. I started with 2 connections. Now I have 6. This should bump me to the top of the list. I didn't get any traffic from my Merchant Circle Profile in the past 30 days so Ill will see what happens. I recently signed up on CitySearch. com to update a company profile for one of my clients only to find that the website listed for the company was a link to the company profile on ServiceMagic. com. The number listed was an 800 number that is used to track calls for Service Magic. I would have liked to list the company independently and list the regular phone number and website, but I guess there is nothing wrong with Service Magic using its website partners to generate leads for their customers. It's worth noting however that they charge their customers per sales lead. What stood out to me was one very recent review from a supposed customer. "Complete work as agreeded apon in the time agreed apon. Pricing was good. " -Neighbor in Royersford PA CitySearch profiles import reviews from Service Magic. On CitySearch anyone can sign up to write a review but it appears that this feature is not available on Service Magic. The review above could potentially be from an actual customer but it appears that it was fabricated. If a customer is going to take the time to write a review it is usually a lot more descriptive. How are Service Magic Reviews collected? Do they contact the customer after the work is completed and ask or might they have some person or computer automatically generating reviews... --- - Published: 2010-08-23 - Modified: 2010-08-23 - URL: https://www.boomvisibility.com/title-tags-for-web-links-are-they-important/ I have been told the proper code for a link in HTML is as follows... . Visit Example. com I was never in the habit of adding a title="link destination description here" but I see in a lot of other code. Can anyone tell me if there is any significance to the search engines in these tags? Also, I am not sure what the purpose of this tag is. the description of the link would go in the anchor text, or the alt text of the image. I found one article useful so far. The comments concluded that this was not important in SEO but important in telling the web visitor where the link goes. Apparently the tag appears when the link is moused over. --- ---
